Oklahoma Falls 9-3 to Dallas Baptist

NORMAN, Okla. --The No. 14 OU baseball team suffered a 9-3 defeat to Dallas Baptist on Tuesday at L. Dale Mitchell Park.  The loss dropped OU to 207 overall while Dallas Baptist improved to 19-10.

The Patriots scored a combined seven runs in the second and third innings and held OU scoreless until the fourth frame to record just its second win in the all-time series (2004).  The Sooners lead the all-time series 15-2.

DBU jumped out on top first with a four-run second inning, paced by Israel Victor’s two-run single through the right side of the infield.  In the third inning, Victor plated another Patriot run off a single to left field and Brad Boles’ double increased the lead to 7-0.

The Sooners got on the board in the fourth inning after Ryan Rohlinger tripled down the right-field line and later scored on Freddy Rodriguez’s ground out.

After Dallas Baptist added two more runs in the seventh inning, the Sooners countered with two runs of their own off RBI singles by Chuckie Caufield and Aaron Reza. 

Tuesday’s loss was just the Sooners’ third this season at home in 14 chances.   Dallas Baptist outhit Oklahoma 11-9 and was led by Israel’s three RBI off two hits.  Caufield and Rohlinger led the Sooners’ offense with two hits apiece.

Will Savage started the contest and was charged with the loss after one inning pitched.  Savage (2-2) gave up four earned runs off three hits and two walks.

For DBU, Rodney Brantley improved to 6-1 after limiting OU to one run and five hits.  Brantley struck out four batters and waked three in six innings.

The Sooners (20-7, 2-1 Big 12) return to Big 12 play this weekend to host No. 10 Texas (19-10, 4-1 Big 12) for a three-game set at L. Dale Mitchell Park.  The series begins on Friday at 7 p.m. and continues on Saturday with a 5:30 p.m. first pitch.  Sunday’s finale is scheduled for 1 p.m. and all three games can be heard live on KOKC 1520 AM and seen live on ESPNU.
