NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma soccer team will face SMU in an exhibition game on Sunday, Aug. 26 at 1 p.m. at Westcott Field in Dallas. The game will serve as the final test for OU before the regular season opens next weekend.
Admission to Sunday's game is free and fans can watch a live webcast of the game by clicking here.
The Sooners have one week left before the 2007 season opens at home against Alabama A&M on Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m. OU will also host Oral Roberts that same weekend on Sept. 2 at 3 p.m.
OU reported to practice on Aug. 14 and after two weeks of work, head coach Randy Evans and the Sooners are ready for some live competition.
"After numerous intrasquad scrimmages, we are obviously excited to play against another team," said Evans. "SMU is a perennial NCAA team and that is the level we are working towards. Sunday should be a good gauge of where this team is with one week left before the season opener."
The Sooners finished the 2006 season with an 8-11-1 record and a seventh place finish in the Big 12 at 3-6-1. OU returns 14 letterwinners from last year, including eight starters. The 2007 squad also features what the coaching staff has tabbed the most talented signing class to arrive in Norman.
SMU defeated Texas A&M-Commerce in its only other scrimmage of the preseason, 4-2, on Aug. 19. The Mustangs are picked to win Conference USA after taking home the league crown last season.
Oklahoma trails the all-time series with SMU, 3-2-1, and the two last met during the opening weekend of the 2004 season. The Sooners and Mustangs finished the contest tied at two goals apiece after 120 minutes of action in Norman.
