Kansas City, Mo. - The University of Oklahoma wrestling team remained in third place following quarterfinal action today at the 2003 NCAA Championships in Kansas City, Mo., at Kemper Arena. The Sooners placed freshman Teyon Ware and seniors Robbie Waller and Josh Lambrecht in the semifinals tonight. Ware, Waller and Lambrecht have a combined four falls and one technical fall as well as five decisions to help pull the Sooners with in four and a half point of second place Minnesota.

Ware defeated eighth-seeded Phillip Simpson of Army, 5-2, in his 141-pound quarterfinal match. Both of Simpson's points came as stalling calls against Ware. The Edmond Oklahoma native will face Jason Mester of Central Michigan in the semifinals tonight.

Appalachian State's Mark Fee was no match for Waller, who recorded the 174-pound defensive fall at 1:27. Waller, who finished sixth in last year's tournament, is guaranteed atleast a sixth palce finish. Waller will wrestle Brad Dillion of Lehigh a semifinal match this evening.

Lambrecht, last year's NCAA runner-up, recorded a pin against third-seeded Clint Wattenberg of Cornell in a 184-pound battle. Lambrecht, a sixth seed, lost to Wattenberg earlier this season at the National Duals, 6-3. Lambrecht will grapple bedlam rival Jake Rosholt in the semifinals tonight.

Senior Bo Maynes barely lost his 125-pound quarterfinal match to third seeded Ben VomBaur of Boise State, 3-2. Maynes led the match by one point until the final five seconds when he gave up the reversal and the win. Maynes will face fifth seeded Nick Simmons of Michigan State in the consolation bracket. Maynes will need the victory to garner All-American honors.

Oklahoma's Tom Grossman lost to Minnesota's Damion Hahn by a score of 14-2. Grossman will face Marcio Botelho of Fresno State in a consolation match tonight.

Senior Witt Durden won his first 133-pound consolation match against Northern Illinois' Sam Hiatt, but was unable to defeat Iowa State's Zach Roberson. Durden fell to Roberson in the consolation bracket, 6-1.

Oklahoma junior Rafael Maturino scored the decision over Justin Nestor of Pittsburgh, 4-3. He faced Arizona State's Rocky Smart in his next consolation match, but was unable to score the victory at 157 pounds. Maturino lost in a 14-5 major decision.

Semifinal action will begin in Kemper Arena at 5:30 p.m., with consolation matches immediately following the conclusion of championship bouts.
