Norman, Okla. - The 2004 edition of Sooners Women's Gymnastics was able to introduce themselves to the public and sign autographs before the OU vs. UCLA football game at Sooner Fan Fest on Saturday, Sept. 20. Members of the team all participated in signing autographs for fans while getting to enjoy the festivities before OU's contest with the Bruins.
"It was the first encounter our team has had with our fans this year," said assistant coach Nilson Medeiros. "A lot of people stoppe by to get an autographed picture and show their support for the program. It was great to go out there and see the community getting behind us. it is no secret we all came here to win and the fan support on Saturday makes our team more accountable of the task at hand. This was a great motivation boost for our girls and a great experience overall."
This year's team is up to the task of achieving a successful season including a trip to nationals and has the talent to do so. After making an appearance in 2001, the Oklahoma team was left out the past two years by less than a half of a tenth both times. The Sooners will rely on the experiences of seniors Kasie Tamayo and Karina Agafanova to lead the 2004 squad. In order for OU to be a contender for a National Title they will need an all-around effort from every member of the team. The addition of freshmen Brittany Koncak and Tiffany Willin will add solid depth to the squad.
