NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma head volleyball coach Santiago Restrepo has announced the signing of Julia Doyle of Plymouth, Minn., to a national-letter-of-intent. Doyle will join the Sooners for the 2012 season.
“This is the tallest, most physical class we’ve signed since I’ve been at Oklahoma,” Restrepo said. “We’re very excited for the opportunity to teach these young ladies and continue the tradition we’ve established. Julia is a very talented setter. She’s versatile and will be a key contributor to the continued success of our program.”
Doyle was named to the 2011 American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America second team and a PrepVolleyball Senior Ace. The two-time all-Minnesota honoree was the Minneapolis all-Metro player of the year as a senior. She led the state of Minnesota with a .518 hitting percentage and .655 kill efficiency as a senior and closed out her career with 543 kills and a .468 hitting percentage. She played for USA Volleyball’s A2 national red team during the 2011 High Performance Championships in Tucson, Ariz.
“I love the University of Oklahoma campus,” Doyle said. “It one of the most beautiful I’ve seen. It’s also an institution that is very strong academically. The volleyball program has had great success, and the coaches are wonderful.”
