Norman Okla.- The OU women’s tennis team will begin play Wednesday at the ITA Regional Championship in Tulsa, Okla.  The tournament begins with a qualifying round with two wins leading to a spot in the main draw.

Oklahoma’s Gabby Baker, Christi Baxley and Monica Purice received a bye into the main draw based on previous rankings.  The other five including Anne Carter, Brittany Baldy, Rachel Cox, Chelsea Orr and Irina Lykina will have to play in the pre-qualifier.

“This is the best tournament of the fall,” said head coach Mark Johnson.  “It is a chance for us to see many of the same competitors that we will see in the spring.”

Oklahoma will also enter four doubles teams into the tournament.

“We are playing some new teams at doubles,” Johnson said.  “We are trying to see who fits best with who.”

The doubles teams consist of Baker/Baxley; Orr/Cox; Lykina/Purice; and Carter/Blady.

This will be the first tournament this fall that the entire team will be present.
