NORMAN, Okla. - The Big 12 Conference announced the 2007 Academic-All Big 12 tennis team Tuesday. The Oklahoma women’s team led the Big 12 with five named to the 32-member first team and one named to the 12-member second team.
Sooners named to first team were; junior Gabby Baker, junior Christi Baxley, senior Anne Carter, senior Irina Lykina and senior Melissa Mercer.
Baker was also one of four recognized for a 4.0 GPA.
Junior Rachael Cox represented Oklahoma on the second team.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher (either cumulative or over the two previous semesters) and must have participated in 60 percent of her team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
This is the second consecutive year for the OU women’s tennis team to place four or more on the first team.
The Sooners (8-12 overall, 5-6 Big 12) will travel to Kansas City, Mo., Thursday, April 26, to begin play in the 2007 Big 12 Conference Championships.
