NORMAN, Okla.   Oklahoma’s junior Alexei Ivanov fought off two-match points before surrendering a 7-6 (5), 6-4, 6-3 hard fought match to Oklahoma State’s Boris Kuharic to give the Cowboys a 4-3 victory in Bedlam tennis Wednesday in Norman.

With the loss, OU drops to 17-4 on the season and 2-4 in Big 12 play, while OSU improves to 18-5 and 5-2 in league action.

“I’m disappointed in the final score, but I am extremely proud of my players and how hard they fought. They left everything out on the court. It was a great match and we just came up a little short, but we will bounce back and
learn from it,” said head coach Paul Lockwood. “I think everyone here saw a great solid match, and with the conclusion of our home schedule we look forward to continuing this progress at home next season.”

At the No. 2 spot, the pair of senior Silviu Tanasoiu and sophomore Marek Velicka dominated OSU’s Mark Van Elden and Daniel Byrnes, 8-5. The pair now owns a spring record of 14-6.

Oklahoma earned its second point when Garrison cruised to a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Artsem Burmistrau at No. 4 singles. Garrison remains undefeated in Big 12 play at 6-0 and expands his winning streak to 15-straight matches.

OU’s final point came from Fukala who swept Tomas Buhunicky 7-5, 7-5 in his last home match in front of Sooner fans. Fukala improves his spring mark to 17-1 and goes to 4-1 in league play.
