NORMAN, Okla.- The 16th-ranked University of Oklahoma men's golf team shot the second-lowest team score (291) today to move into second place at the NCAA Central Regional in Stillwater, Okla. OU concluded second-round action with a total of 584 (+8) and are only six strokes behind the College of Charleston, which finished the day at 578 (+2). OU freshman Martin Flores (Mansfield, Texas) is the tournament leader after firing a second-round score of 70 (-2) to finish with a total of 140 (-4).

"I think the north wind made this course more difficult today," said Flores. "I just tried to go out there and hit the ball well. I thought that I putted the ball very well today. I missed a few birdie putts here and there but I think the par putts I made evened things out enough for me to do well."

Sophomore Matt Cohn (La Jolla, Calif.) came back in fine fashion shooting a second-round 71 after posting a first-round of 80. With today's round, Cohn moved into a tie for 66th place.

"We were at seven-under a one point during the round so obviously, we're a little disappointed to end up where we did," said Oklahoma Head Coach Jim Ragan. "I don't think that there was any one particular hole that was a problem for us. We just gave a few shots back here and there and ended up at three-over. We'll get some work in this afternoon and fix some of those leaks so we can have a chance to win tomorrow."

OU junior Cody Freeman (Arnett, Okla.) and sophomore John Kidwell (Dallas, Texas) each posted identical scores for the second day in a row shooting 75. Each stands tied for 40th with two-day totals of 149 (+5). Senior Kelsey Cline (Yukon, Okla.) shot a second-round of 79 and is tied for 93rd place.

The Sooners resume play at the 2001 NCAA Central Regional tomorrow morning at 7:12 a.m.
