NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma wrestling team won six matches in its second dual of the day to beat Cal Poly, 26-18, San Luis Obispo, Calif. Oklahoma defeated Fresno State earlier in the day by a score of 23-18. The Sooners topped Cal Poly despite forfeiting at 149 pounds and heavyweight. Senior Josh Lambrecht received his second pin of the day as fellow senior Witt Durden remained undefeated.
Cal Poly received one of its two decisions at 125 pounds when Vic Moreno scored a 3-1 win over Oklahoma's Bo Maynes (23-4). Sooner Witt Durden (12-0) decisioned Cal Poly's Nate Ybarra at 133 pounds by a score of 6-3. True freshman Teyon Ware (6-1) recorded a pin over Cal Poly's 141 pound wrestler Jeff Owens at 4:23.
Oklahoma forfeited the 149-pound weight class, which tied the dual after four matches. OU then took the lead for good. Junior Rafael Maturino (12-10) decisioned Cal Poly's Keith Kroeger, 8-4, in the 157 pound match. Sooner Wes Roberts (14-6) tallied a major decision victory at 165 pounds over Nick Hopping, 16-3. Senior Robbie Waller (18-3) also recorded a major decision win over his opponent, Martin Floreani, at 174 pounds by a score of 16-4.
Returning All-American Josh Lambrecht (13-1) widened the gap when he pinned his second opponent of the day at 184 pounds. Lambrecht's pin of Ryan Halsey came at the 1:57 minute mark. Oklahoma lost the 197 pound battle by a 3-2 score when Tom Grossman (16-5) was decisioned by David Schenk of Cal Poly. Oklahoma forfeited the heavyweight match against Dan Howe.
Oklahoma will travel to the National Duals in Columbus, Ohio, for its next dual action on Jan. 18-19.
