NORMAN, Okla. University of Oklahoma men’s gymnasts Brian Carr, Kyle Fernandez, Michael Gehart, Josh Gore and James Myers were named to the 2005 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Academic All-Conference team. It was the second straight honor for junior Myers and the third straight honor for seniors Gehart and Gore.
Gore, who received All-American honors on the parallel bars and pommel horse, is majoring in zoology. Myers will continue his Sooner career in 2006 both with the team and in the classroom while majoring in chemistry. Gehart rounded out the repeat winners with a major in health & sports science.
Carr, a petroleum engineering sophomore from Mandeville, La. earned his first honor and Fernandez, a senior from Stratford, Conn., an international business major also received the honor for the first time.
The student-athletes were nominated for this award by their institutions on the basis of the following criteria:
1. 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average.
2. Student-athlete must have completed one full academic year at the member institution prior to the season for which the award is being received and must be at least a sophomore academically.
3. Student-athlete must have competed in fifty percent or more of the institution’s competition in the student-athlete’s respective sport.
