NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's soccer team begins its 1999 preseason workouts Wednesday, Aug. 11, at 7 a.m. The Sooners, who finished the 1998 campaign with an 8-9 overall record, the best mark in the program's brief three-year history, will practice three times a day leading up to their Aug. 22 noon exhibition game against Tulsa at Norman North Soccer Complex.
Oklahoma returns eight starters and 15 letterwinners from last year's squad. Head coach Randy Evans also welcomes 10 newcomers to the program. Serving as team captain this year will be junior midfielder/defender Mary Morse.
OU opens its regular season Friday, Aug. 27, at Texas at 7 p.m. The game marks the first of eight road contests to begin the year. The Sooners play their first home game Tuesday, Sept. 28, at 6 p.m. against rival Oklahoma State. Oklahoma also plays home games against Colorado (Oct. 1), LSU (Oct. 3), Baylor (Oct. 15), Texas Tech (Oct. 17), Nebraska (Oct. 22) and Iowa State (Oct. 24). All home games will be played at Norman North High School.
