FULLERTON, Calif. – The ninth-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team fell in their second game on Saturday at the 2009 Judi Garman Classic. Host Cal State Fullerton edged the Sooners (22-8), 4-3, by scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Titans moved to 11-13 on the year.

Oklahoma jumped on the board early, plating two runs in the first inning. Evan Sallis leadoff with an infield single and stole second before Amber Flores reached on a hit by pitch. Sallis moved to third on a ground out and Flores moved to second after stealing the base. With two on and one out, Samantha Ricketts doubled to right center to score Sallis and Flores.

The Sooners added another run in the third when Flores singled up the middle to put a runner on. With two outs, Chana’e Jones singled up the middle and advanced to second on an error by the pitcher. Flores scored on the single to put OU up 3-2.

In the bottom half of the third, the Titans got on the board when Sheila Holguin was issued a two-out walk and scored on Morgan LeMond’s home run to left center.

The Sooners threatened in the fourth when Dani Dobbs reached after being hit by a pitch and reached second on a ground out. Despite having a runner in scoring position, the Sooners left Dobbs on base to end the inning.

Fullerton tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when starter Kirsten Allen walked in the game-tying run. The Titans put a runner on base after an OU throwing error and issued a walk and saw another runner reach on a fielder’s choice. After handing out an intentional walk with two outs, Allen walked K.C. Craddick to plate the tying run.

Oklahoma put two runners on base after Dobbs and Katie Norris were each hit by a pitch. Dobbs and runner Haley Anderson moved up on a ground out but were stranded on base to end the inning.

In the bottom half, Fullerton got a one-out double to center field by Kadie Baldwin. After registering the inning’s second out, OU intentionally walked Torrie Anderson and Holguin fouled out to left field to end the inning.

The Sooners went down in order in the seventh and in the bottom half of the frame, the Titans rallied to cap off the comeback. LeMond singled to lead off the inning and pinch runner Adriana Martinez moved to second on a ground out and advanced to third on an OU miscue. Oklahoma intentionally walked Lauren Lupinetti and Samantha Dollarhide drove in Martinez scored to give Fullerton the 4-3 win.

Flores went 2-for-3, scoring two runs, while Ricketts drove in two runs on a 1-for-4 night. Jones went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored.

Of the four Cal State Fullerton runs scored, only two were earned for Allen. She went to 6-5 on the year and struck out a season-high eight on the evening.

Ari Cervantes (7-7) got the win for the Titans, allowing five Oklahoma hits and three earned runs.

Oklahoma closes out action at the 2009 Judi Garman Classic on Sunday with a 1 p.m. CDT meeting with Bowling Green.
