NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's basketball team has been ranked 12th in the nation by Basketball News, the publication announced Tuesday. The Sooners are one of two Big 12 Conference teams listed in Basketball News' top 25 (Kansas is ranked fifth). OU is coming off a 22-11 season that saw them tie for second place in the Big 12 and advance to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1989.

Senior forward Eduardo Najera is also listed on the publication's third-team All-America list. Najera, OU's leading scorer (15.5 ppg) and rebounder (8.3 rpg) last year, is also a preseason Playboy All-American. The Chihuahua, Mexico, native ranks 29th on the Sooners' career scoring list with 1,021 points and has a legitimate chance of becoming one of the school's 10 all-time leading scorers.

Oklahoma begins the 1999-2000 season with exhibition games Nov. 6 and 13 in Norman. The Sooners start the regular season against Montana State Nov. 19 in the Top of the World Classic in Fairbanks, Alaska.
