Norman, Okla. - Oklahoma head women's basketball coach Sherri Coale announces the hiring of former Norman North Boys' Basketball Coach Chad Thrailkill to her staff. Thrailkill replaces Deren Boyd as the Director of Basketball Operations for the Sooners. Boyd recently accepted a position with the Sports Tours USA located in North Carolina.

"We are so sad to say good-bye to Deren, however, we are excited for his career opportunities in North Carolina and we wish him all the best," said Coale. "We are thrilled to be able to add Chad Thrailkill to our staff. Chad has had an extremely successful track record as both a head girls' and boys' high school coach. He is a proven winner. I know from personal experience that Chad has an extraordinary work ethic. He is great with people and will be an excellent ambassador for our program and this University."

Three of the seven years Coale served as Norman High Head Girls' Basketball coach she was assisted by Thrailkill. The two produced a three year record of 76-7 (.916 winning percentage), coached three teams to the state playoffs (1994-96), produced a state championship team (1995-96) and had a state runner-up finish (1994-95).

"I'm real excited to be here," Thrailkill said. "Growing up in Norman and having parents that worked for OU makes this opportunity even more special for me. Coach Coale has been and will continue to be a big influence on my career. By joining her staff, I know that I will continue to learn and grow as a professional in the business."

Most recently, Thrailkill was named Mid-State Conference Coach of the Year after guiding the Norman North Boys' Basketball team to the 2002 Regional title. In 2001, the Norman native, coached NNH to the school's first state playoff appearance.

Thrailkill also served a four-year stint as head girls' basketball coach at Westmoore High School from 1996-2000. His 2000 squad finished second in the state with an overall record of 25-3, while the 1999 team won the state crown with a 25-4 mark. For his coaching performance, he was named the 1999 Region, Mid-State Conference and Big All-City Coach of the Year. He was also asked to coach the All-Star team and served as an assistant coach for the Jim Thorpe All-Star Games that same year.

Thrailkill is a graduate of Southern Nazarene University. He earned a bachelor of science in physical education in 1993. He is married to April Thrailkill. They have two children, daughter Shelby, 3 and son Brayden, 1.
