FRISCO, Texas - The University of Oklahoma men's golf team finished tied for second place at the inaugural Sooner Invitational at the Westin Stonebriar Resort in Frisco, Texas, Tuesday. OU finished the tournament with a total of 839 (-19). The Sooners shot one-under par over the final 18 holes to tie New Mexico for second place. TCU won the tournament with a total of 839 (-25).

Senior John Kidwell shot a final-round 68 to win the individual championship. Kidwell fired rounds of 72, 65 and 68 to lead the way for the Sooners. His victory was the first individual championship of his collegiate career. His second-round 65 Monday also tied the course record.

Junior Martin Flores shot a final-round 72 to finish tied for 12. Flores shot a 66 in the second round for a new career low.

"I thought we played tough today and hung in there despite tough conditions," head coach Jim Ragan said. "We needed someone to step up in the final round and John Kidwell did exactly that by posting a 68. Kidwell's individual championship was outstanding considering the quality field that was in the tournament. Martin Flores did a good job of playing well when we needed him to and Blake Martin stepped in and made an immediate impact for his first tournament of the fall."

Juniors Doug Manor and Blake Martin were very consistent for Oklahoma. Manor finished in a tie for 23rd place with rounds of 72, 71 and 75 while Martin shot a career low 69 in the second round and finished with an even par. In only his second tournament as a Sooner, freshman Brodie Flanders finished tied for 39 with a three day total of 224 (+8).

Freshmen Jim Renner and Robert Stone competed as individuals. Stone finished with a solid 73, 73 and 72 to tie for 23rd. Renner finished very strong, shooting a 71 in the final round.
