SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Oklahoma men’s golf squad placed 12th at the UTSA/Oak Hills Invitational in San Antonio, Texas, on Tuesday.
The Sooners fired a final round team score of 299 (+15), closing the 54-hole event with a team tally of 901 (+49).
OU was led by sophomore Riley Pumphrey’s 22nd-place finish. The Georgetown, Texas, product fired rounds of 75-73-73 en route to a final tally of 221 (+8).
The Oklahoma trio of Ben Klaus (76-80-73), Liam Logan (79-75-75) and Ben Blundell (76-75-78) all finished in a share of 49th at 16-over. Klaus played his final nine holes at -1 in his first collegiate event with the Sooners after transferring from Vanderbilt this past fall.
Rounding out the OU team scoring was Tyler Rody (78-74-80), who concluded the event tied for 61st at +19.
Defending champion Texas Tech won its second straight UTSA/Oak Hills Invitational crown, besting tournament medalist Philipp Westermann (-2) and his Southeastern Lousiana teammates by two shots. The Red Raiders closed the event at +23 after a final round score of 293 (+9) on Tuesday. Westermann was one of just two players in the 81-man field to finish in red figures, defeating Wichita State’s Dustin Garza by one shot.
OU returns to action at the Puerto Rico Classic in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Feb. 21-23.
