NORMAN, Okla. The Oklahoma men’s tennis team will participate in the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships on Friday, October 14, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa.
Six Sooners will participate in the singles main draw, while three pairs will partake in the doubles main draw. In singles action, senior Ondrej Fukala, juniors Alexei Ivanov, Tommy Garrison and Lee Gregg, sophomore Marek Velicka and freshman Federico Chavarria will begin play on Friday. In doubles action, the duo of Silviu Tanasoiu and Velicka hope to continue moving in the right direction by improving on their 4-1 fall record.
Fifteen schools will be competing in the five day event, including four schools ranked in the final ITA poll from last season. The top four teams will advance to the qualifier held in two weeks, with the winner of the qualifier earning the right to participate in the National Indoor Championships on Nov. 4-7, in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Oklahoma will be joined by Arkansas, Arkansas-Little Rock, Creighton, Drake, Illinois State, Missouri-Kansas City, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, ORU, St. Louis, Southern Illinois, Southwest Missouri State, Tulsa and Wichita State, at the Wilson/ITA Regionals this week.
