Tulsa, Okla. - The Oklahoma soccer team successfully opened its 2002 season by blanking Tulsa, 2-0, at the ORU soccer complex on Friday night. Freshmen Lauren MacIver and Michelle Enos each scored goals in their debuts wearing Sooner crimson for head coach Randy Evans.

"At the beginning of the year you're happy to escape with this result," said Evans. "We got the result we needed and I was thrilled with how we played."

MacIver, Oklahoma's prep Player of the Year in 2001 after a stellar campaign at Jenks High School, put OU on the board with an unassisted goal at 36:59. MacIver took a team-high five shots including two on goal for the game.

"MacIver's such a talent," said Evans. "She's made a positive impact on our program since the day she said she was coming to OU. So it's fitting for her to get her first goal of her Sooner career in our first game."

The Sooners took the 1-0 lead into halftime with 14 shots in the period to Tulsa's four.

OU scored again in the second half at 67:10 when freshman Michelle Enos blasted the ball past TU goalkeeper Kelly Wilson off a setup from Kristin Vesely.

"I thought this incoming class would make an impact," said Evans. "We already feel it in game one."

Oklahoma goalkeeper Catherine Wade totaled three saves in the shutout. OU finished with 27 shots in the game to Tulsa's nine.

The Sooners remain in Tulsa to play ORU on Sunday night, Sept. 1 at 8 p.m. at the ORU soccer complex. OU hosts SMU in the home opener on Friday, Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m.
