OU Wraps Up Action in Las Cruces

NORMAN, Okla.-- The University of Oklahoma women’s golf team completed "Price’s Give Em Five" Fund/ New Mexico State University Invitational in 16th place Wednesday. The Sooners shot a final round 306 to finish 75-over par for a three-round 939 (+75).

Junior Kelly Jacques and senior Megan Goodwin led the Sooners in the third round. Goodwin climbed the Las Cruces leaderboard in final-round action, firing a tournament team-low 71 (-1). She rebounded from a 14-over par performance in the second round. Jacques shot a 77 (+5) in the last 18 holes. The duo’s performance earned a tie for 46th.

"It was a rough tournament," OU head coach Carol Ludvigson said. "We will learn from it and are looking to bounce back in Hawaii."

Sophomore Kendall Dye, who led OU in the second round, shot an 85 (+13) to finish 64th. Sophomore Staci Smoot finished in 74th place and senior Jaclyn Stelzer earned 77th. The Sooners carded final-round scores of 77 (+26) and 81 (+28), respectively.

Host New Mexico State won the tournament shooting a three-round 890 (+26). Lehua Wise (New Mexico State) took individual medalist honors after finishing two-under par.

"The girls have great attitudes regardless of our finish," said Ludvigson. "That gives me great hope to end the fall season with a bang. We just need to believe in the ability we have."

OU will wrap up its fall slate in Honolulu, Hawaii, at the Kent Youel Invitational. The 54-hole tournament will be held Oct. 24-25 at the par-72, 5,900-yard Kapolei Golf Course.
