NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's soccer team won its third consecutive game, 2-1 over TCU, Sunday at the OU Soccer Complex in front of 272 fans. The victory was the Sooners' fifth of the year against three losses and gave the team one more win than all of last season. The win streak also set a school record for OU.
Junior forward Jonette Coquat and sophomore forward Shannon Wing each registered a goal and an assist to lead the Sooners. Sophomore goalkeeper Jana Cunningham (3-2) allowed one goal and made three saves for her third straight victory.
After a scoreless first half, OU broke through when Wing tallied her first goal of the year when she knocked a rebound in from five yards out, at 46:17, following a shot by Coquat. Oklahoma made it 2-0 in the 59th minute when Coquat registered her fourth goal of the year when she netted the ball from the left side after a pass from Wing.
TCU, now 5-3-1, closed the gap late in the second half, at 79:26, after Jenn Maunder scored off an assist from Nicole Carman, but OU was able to hold on from there. Horned Frogs' goalkeeper Shannon Wanger took the loss as she fell to 5-3-1.
"Their game plan was similiar to UW-Milwaukee's from Friday night, brining up the defenders to attack," said OU Head Coach Randy Evans. "But, once again, we were able to withstand. We're playing well, even without (All-Big 12 defender) Christen Secrest. I am really confident going into conference play next week."
The Sooners' homestand wraps up next weekend as they begin the Big 12 schedule with games against Kansas (Friday at 7:30 p.m) and Missouri (Sunday at noon). The OU Soccer Complex is located at the corner of Chautauqua Ave. and Imhoff Rd. (directly west of Lloyd Noble Center).
