NORMAN, Okla. The reigning Big 12 champion University of Oklahoma men’s golf team heads to the east coast this weekend for the General Jim Hackler tournament at the TPC of Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet, S.C.
The tournament, hosted by Coastal Carolina, features a field of 18 teams including seven that made the NCAA championships last season.
Competing for the Sooners will be seniors J.J. Wood and Nick Sheedy, junior Phillip Bryan and freshmen Jesse Schutte and Tyler Rody.
Rody, a freshman from Andover, Kan., will make his first collegiate start.
Schutte enters the Hackler after tying a collegiate-best tournament score of +4 at last week’s USC Collegiate Invitational. The Oregon freshman would finish in 20th place.
The field features Augusta State, Baylor, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Duke, East Tennessee State, Georgia Southern, Kent State, Lamar, New Mexico, North Florida, Oklahoma, Pepperdine, Purdue, Southern Cal, Tulsa, UNC Wilmington, and Virginia.
Two rounds will be played Sunday at the 6,950 yards, par-72 Tom Fazio/Lanny Wadkins design with the final round concluding on Monday.
East Tennessee State enters the field as the defending champion while Alex Coe of Pepperdine earned medalist honors at last years event.
