NORMAN, Okla.-- The Sooner soccer team and the OU Athletics Marketing Department have a number of promotions set for the opening weekend of the 2009 season.  OU will begin the year against Missouri State on Friday, Aug. 21, at 7 p.m.  On Sunday, the Sooners welcome Sam Houston State for a 7 p.m. contest at John Crain Field.

The last time OU opened the year at home was in 2007.  In that opener, the Sooners tied a program record for goals scored in a single game in an 8-0 victory over Alabama A&M.

On Friday, the first 500 fans will receive a 2009 soccer schedule poster and the game will be followed by a post-game autograph session with the players and coaches.  In addition, fireworks will be displayed after each OU goal is scored. Youth soccer team members that wear their team uniform receive a discounted group rate of $4 per child.

Sunday's game marks "Fans First Day" as all fans in attendance receive free admission.  The first 500 fans will also receive a 2009 schedule poster and the Sooners will sign autographs following the game.

This weekend's games not only marks the start of the 2009 slate, but the beginning of a four-game home stand.  OU returns to action in Norman next weekend against two in-state rivals.  On Friday, Aug. 28, the Sooners will battle Oral Roberts at 7 p.m.  On Sunday, Aug. 30, OU concludes the home stand against Tulsa at 7 p.m.

Oklahoma will play 11 of its 19 regular season games at one of the premier collegiate soccer facilities in the nation, John Crain Field at the OU Soccer Complex.  The Sooners will play five teams that advanced to last year’s NCAA Tournament in Norman, including USC (Sweet 16), Texas (second round), Texas A&M (Elite 8), Kansas (second round) and Missouri (second round).

Single game tickets for the 2009 soccer season went on sale to the public starting on Monday, August, 10.   The 19-game regular season slate is highlighted by 11 regular season contests at the Sooners' home and one of the premier collegiate soccer facilities in the nation, John Crain Field at the OU Soccer Complex.

The August 14 exhibition game will require a ticket for admission. The August 23 game vs. Sam Houston State is Fan's First Day and will be free admission for all fans.
