IRVING, Texas – Junior Ionut Beleleu was named to the Academic All-Big 12 Men’s Tennis First Team, while senior Andrei Daescu and sophomore George Chanturia were named to the second team, announced by the Conference Tuesday.
This is Beleleu’s second appearance on the Academic All-Big 12 First Team. The finance major from Zalau, Romania, was one of 12 first team members.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA.
Daescu, a human relations major from Bucharest, Romania, and Chanturia, an economics-business major from Tbilisi, Georgia, made their Academic All-Big 12 debuts. Daescu and Chanturia were two of seven second team members.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his/her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
Next up, the fifth-seeded Sooners are pitted against the No. 4 seed Texas Tech in the first round of the Big 12 Championships in Austin, Texas, April 30-May 2.
