AUSTIN, Texas The University of Oklahoma men’s golf sqaud heads to Austin, Texas, for the 41st annual Morris Williams Intercollegiate commencing Monday morning. The tournament, being held at the par-72, 6,906-yard Austin Country Club, honors former University of Texas golf standout Morris Williams, who died in an Air Force jet crash in 1953.
The 54-hole event features squads from Auburn, BYU, Kent State, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Oklahoma State, Purdue, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Tulsa and UNLV.
The 14-team field will play 36 holes on Monday, March 26 and 18 holes on Tuesday, March 27. Tournament play begins with a 8:30 (cst) shotgun start on Monday. Tuesday’s final round begins at 7:30 a.m. (cst) off the first and 10th tees.
OU’s line up will feature seniors Nick Sheedy and J.J. Wood, junior Phillip Bryan and freshmen Ben Blundell and Jesse Schutte.
Oklahoma State won the event in 2006, finishing at 14-under par while BYU’s Oscar Alvarez took home medalist honors with his 7-under finish.
Notable former medalists of the Morris Williams Intercollegiate include Fred Couples, Ben Crenshaw, Brad Elder, Bob Estes, Justin Leonard, Phil Mickelson and Payne Stewart.
