WACO, Texas -- The 25th-ranked University of Oklahoma volleyball team won its Big 12 Conference opener Wednesday evening in four sets at Baylor (25-22, 24-26, 26-24, 25-18). Both teams hit well below their season averages and OU (14-3, 1-0 Big 12) managed to commit fewer errors (20) than Baylor's 29. Defensively, the Sooners doubled up the Bears (11-4, 0-1 Big 12) in blocks, 14-7.

Suzy Boulavsky led the Sooners with a team-high 13 kills. Boulavsky added four block assists, including one block solo. Tara Dunn recorded her second double-double of the year with 12 kills and 10 digs. Dunn added five total blocks, including one block solo.

Brianne Barker tallied her 10th double-double of the year with 43 assists and 10 digs. Maria Fernanda led OU with a match-high 27 digs. Caitlin Higgins added a season-high 19 digs and had two of Oklahoma's five service aces.
    
Sallie McLaurin also added two service aces and eight kills and five blocks. Morgan Reynolds added seven kills and a season-high three block assists.  

Torri Campbell led the Bears with a match-high 15 kills. Kate Harris led a trio of Baylor players that had double-digit digs with 21.

In a back-and-forth match that featured 37 ties and 14 lead changes, the team that reached 22 in each of the first two sets was unable to come away with the win. OU tied the first set at 21-all and Baylor went up 22-21 but OU ended the set on a 4-0 run to win 25-22.

Oklahoma had set point three times in the second set to go up 2-0 at the intermission but allowed Baylor to go on a 6-0 run to end the set and win 26-24.OU led 23-22 after a Bayor service error in the third and lost the advantage at 24-23 before calling a timeout. After the break, the Sooners tied the set and took the lead at 25-24 on back-to-back kills from Dunn and earned the set point on a block by the freshman.

The Sooners led 14-10 in the third set and were able to keep the Bears at bay. The closest Baylor got was two points at 14-12. OU stretched the lead to 20-15 on a kill from McLaurin and went on the win the set 25-18 to take the match 3-1.

Oklahoma returns to action next Wednesday evening with a nationally-televised match against No. 8 Texas at 7 p.m. CT on ESPNU. The team holds its annual Pledge for a Cure match for the Jimmy Everest Center at The OU Children's Hospital at the OU Medical Center.
