WBB Wraps Up 2006-07 With Banquet

NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma women's basketball program and a sellout crowd of 500 celebrated the 2006-07 season on Monday night at the United States Postal Training Center in Norman.

In addition to reaching their second consecutive Sweet 16, the Sooners claimed back-to-back regular season and postseason Big 12 Championships.  OU was 28-5 on the year, 13-3 in Big 12 play and 10-2 at the LLoyd Noble Center.

Vice President of Student Affairs Clarke Stroud served as the emcee for the evening.

He handed off the microphone to Senior Associate Athletics Director Dr. Gerald Gurney, who had spoke about the team's academic pursuits, Senior Associate Athletics Director Stephanie Rempe, who welcomed the capacity crowd, and Director of Operations Guy Austin, who spoke about the team's community service efforts.

OU head coach Sherri Coale spoke at length about her basketball and extended staff, thanking them, "for their tireless efforts in support of our team."

Coale also thanked the fans, who packed the Lloyd Noble Center to an average attendance of 10,433.  OU played in front of 125,197 fans at LNC in 2006-07, marking the first time the program had eclipsed a season total of 100,000.

"We were No. 4 in the country in attendance this season," said Coale. "And their is no way we can say thank you enough to all of our fans."

She also praised her student athletes, introducing them one at a time and highlighting their individual performances this season.

Stroud concluded the evening by handing out the postseason awards, which were voted on by the team and coaches.  Outside of the basketball related awards, OU radio play-by-play man Brian Brinkley was given the Sooner Service Award for his dedication and work ethic on the airwaves the last six seasons.
