NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Programs and Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione and head track and field coach Martin Smith announced the 2012 outdoor schedule Wednesday afternoon. The schedule features the John Jacobs Invitational on April 14 in Norman and stretches from Stanford, Calif., to Des Moines, Iowa.
Oklahoma opens the season at the TCU Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas March 15-16. OU also competes at the Tulsa Duals on March 17. The following weekend the Sooners trek to the Bobby Lane Invitational in Arlington, Texas.
The Sooners face a competitive challenge at the Texas Relays in Austin, March 28-31. OU will also send student-athletes to the Arkansas Spring Invitational on March 31.
The men’s and women’s distance groups travel to the Stanford Invitational on April 6 and 7, while the rest of the groups compete at the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz., Mesa Classic in Mesa, Ariz., or the North Texas Invitational in Denton, Texas.
Oklahoma hosts its only home meet of the outdoor season on April 14 with the John Jacobs Invitational at the John Jacobs Track and Field Complex.
The men’s and women’s throws corps head to the Mt. SAC Relays April 18-21, and the remainder of the team competes at the John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., April 20-21.
The Drake Relays are set for April 26-28 in Des Moines, Iowa, and the distance group heads to the Peyton Jordan Invitational in Stanford, Calif., on April 29. OU closes out the regular season with the Arkansas Twilight on May 4 in Fayetteville.
The 2012 Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships is set for May 11-13 in Manhattan, Kan. The NCAA West Preliminary is in Austin, Texas, May 24-26. Des Moines is the site for the 2011 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships June 6-9.
The USA Outdoor Track and Field Junior Championships are June 15-17 in Bloomington, Ind., and the 2012 USA Olympic Trials are June 22-July 1 in Eugene, Ore.
