OU Set to Compete at Pepperdine

The University of Oklahoma men's golf team will compete in its fourth tournament of the fall season next week (Oct. 7-8) at the Pepperdine Club Glove Intercollegiate at the Saticoy Country Club in Somis, Calif. OU is coming off an eighth place finish at the Carpet Capital Classic which was held on Sept. 27-29.

Sooner Golfers in the Rankings

OU is currently 22nd in the Golfweek collegiate rankings. Individually, senior John Kidwell (Dallas, Texas) was listed as one of the players to watch in the GolfWorld college preview. Kidwell earned medalist honors at the Sooner Invitational with a three-round total of 205 (-11).

Doug Manor (Sr., Garland, Texas) - Making his eighth career start for Oklahoma ... Shot a career-low 68 in the last round of the Carpet Capital Classic finishing tied for 10th, also a career-low... Finished tied for 23rd at the Sooner Invitational... Started in four tournaments during the 2001 spring season ... Fired a then-career-low round of 69 in the second round of the NCAA regional.

Martin Flores (Jr., Mansfield, Texas) - Making his 29th consecutive start for OU ... Has finished in the top-20 in two of the three tournaments this fall... Fired a career-low 66 at the Sooner Invitational... Started the 2001 season with a third-place finish at The Ridges Intercollegiate ... Finished the 2002 Big 12 Championship tied for 26th with a score of 222.

John Kidwell (Sr., Dallas, Texas) - Making his 32nd start as a Sooner ... Shot a course-record 65 at the Sooner Invitational en route to winning the individual championship... Named GolfWorld Player of the Week Sept. 27... Led OU in a team-best six tournaments while averaging a team-low 71.48 during the 2002 spring season and 72.00 overall ... Tied for second in back-to-back tournaments at the Big 12 Championships and The Maxwell last year ... Garnered third-team All-America honors ... A first-team All-Big 12 selection last year.

Blake Martin (Jr., Stigler, Okla.) - Starting his sixth tournament for OU ... Shot a career-low 68 in the last round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate...Shot a then-career-low 69 at the Sooner Invitational... Posted career bests in his first start as a Sooner at the 2002 Taylor Made Waikoloa Intercollegiate... Fired a then-career-low 70 in the first round and finished the tournament with a four-over 220 for a career-best finish (T26th) as OU surged to a second-place finish.

Jim Renner (Fr., Plainville, Mass.) - Starting his second tournament for OU ... Shot a career-low 71 at the Sooner Invitational...Enjoyed a successful junior career capped last fall by Massachusetts Golf Association Junior Player of the Year and Boston Globe Player of the Year honors.
