NORMAN, Okla. -- The positive preseason rankings and honors keep rolling in for the Oklahoma women’s basketball team and sophomore Courtney Paris. On Wednesday, CSTV.com announced that it has ranked Oklahoma at No. 3 in its preseason poll and named Courtney Paris as a preseason first team All-American.

Courtney Paris, who was a consensus first team All-American last  season, has also earned preseason All-American honors from Street & Smith’s and Athlon Sports.

The Sooners have been ranked no lower than No. 6 in the five preseason polls announced to date.  CSTV.com’s No. 3 ranking mirrors the predictions of Athlon and Street & Smith’s.  The Sooners have not been ranked any higher than No. 3.

CSTV.com personality Greg Ampsinger offered this commentary on why OU can win the National Championship, “The Sooners have all five starters back! Player of the Year frontrunner Courtney Paris is the most dominant player in women’s basketball since Lisa Leslie. Throw in dynamic freshmen Abi Olajuwon and Amanda Thompson, who will work their way into the lineup as well. This is OU’s year!”

The top-five ranking comes on the heels of the 2005-06 season, which was one of the most successful years in OU history. Last season the Sooners posted a 31-5 record, which included a 19-0 run through Big 12 play and a  Sweet 16 appearance.  OU was ranked No. 8 in the final 2005-06 Coaches Poll.

The first chance to catch the 2006-07 team will be at the Baseline Bash on Oct. 20 at 7 p.m.  The preseason event is part of the homecoming festivities leading up to the Colorado football game on Oct. 21.  Admission is free and the doors will open at 6 p.m.

OU opens its season by hosting the State Farm Tip-Off Classic at the Lloyd Noble Center on Nov. 12. OU will play DePaul at 2:30 p.m., while Rutgers (No. 11 in CSTV.com poll) and Georgia (No. 9) will meet in the early game at Noon Central.  All four teams reached the Sweet 16 last season.

General admission season tickets still remain for the 2006-07 season, although reserved level tickets have sold out.  Fans interested in season ticktes can call the OU Ticket Office at (405) 325-GoOU or buy them online.
