NORMAN, Okla. Sooners Aaron Ivey and Ryan Rohlinger were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI Baseball First Team released Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
“We appreciate and recognize the outstanding efforts that both student-athletes have experienced this year on and off the field,” OU head baseball coach Sunny Golloway said. “This is a tremendous honor for both the University of Oklahoma baseball program and the prospective student-athletes individually. We are extremely proud.”
Ivey, a junior outfielder, has a 4.0 cumulative GPA in finance.
The Oklahoma City native has played in 43 games this season. He is batting .286 and has successfully stolen base in nine of ten attempts. Ivey also owns a .986 fielding percentage on the nation’s No. 1 ranked fielding team.
Rohlinger, a native of West Bend, Wisc., has a 3.63 GPA in economics.
The Sooners’ senior third baseman has started 49 games and bats .366 with a team-leading nine home runs and .581 slugging percentage.
The pair is the first to be nominated to the team since Reggie Willits was a second-team member in 2003. Casey Bookout (1998 and 1999) was the last voted to the first team.
As first team all-district members, both will be nominated for consideration for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American team. Bookout, in 1997, is the last Sooner baseballer to earn the honor.
Ivey, Rohlinger and the rest of the No. 9 Sooner baseball team play Oklahoma State this week in the Bedlam Series Presented by the Bank of Oklahoma and Your Oklahoma Ford Dealers.
The series begins in Tulsa at Drillers Stadium, Friday at 7:30 p.m., with games two and three scheduled at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City, Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 5 p.m.
