NORMAN, Okla. -- The Big 12 announced Tuesday that senior Lisa Meldrum, of the Oklahoma women’s golf team, has been honored as the April Big 12 Golfer of the Month.
It marks the second time this season that Meldrum has earned the honor. She was also named a first-team All-Big 12 member and a second-team Academic All-Big 12 member last month.
During the month of April, the senior from Montreal, Quebec, had a 72.4 stroke average with a win at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic and a tie for fourth place at the rain-shortened Big 12 Championship. For the month Meldrum averaged one-over-par with a low round of 70. Heading into NCAA Regional competition, she is third in the Big 12 in stroke average and has a national ranking of 30th in Golfweek. Meldrum’s two top-five finishes in April were her sixth and seventh of the season.
The Sooners are the only team in the Big 12 to have a Golfer of the Month honor more than once. Meldrum won the award in September and April while sophomore Amparo Gala won the award in February. Meldrum is currently averaging a team-low 74.7 strokes per round heading into NCAA Regional play.
Meldrum and the Sooners will play in the NCAA Central Regional in Normal, Ill., May 6-8. The Sooners are a No. 5 seed in the region. The top eight teams from each region will advance to the NCAA Championships in Opelika, Ala., May 18-21.
