NORMAN, Okla. -- As part of continuing coverage of Oklahoma baseball throughout the summer, will bring fans weekly updates of current Sooners competing in the numerous summer baseball leagues around the country.

After two weeks of competition, pitcher Daniel McCutchen has had two solid starts for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox of the Cape Cod Baseball League. In McCutchen's first outing of the season against the Wareham Gateman, he tossed 8.1 innings of four-hit baseball with 12 strikeouts while allowing just one earned run. In his second outing of the season against the Chatham A's, McCutchen lasted six strong innings and allowed one earned run on six hits, while striking out seven batters. McCutchen has 19 strikeouts on the season, a mark that is good for third place in the Cape.

McCutchen is joined by teammates, Kody Kaiser, Jackson Williams, on the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox.  Also competing in the Cape Cod Baseball League is Sooner reliever Will Savage, competing for the Brewster Whitecaps.

Others participating in summer leagues include:

Chad Lembeck and Blake Mitchell (San Diego Mavericks) and P.J. Sandoval (Southern California Fire) of the Southern California Baseball League.

Russell Raley (Graham Roughnecks), Brent HodgeJarod Freeman, and Scott Rooker (Highland Park Blue Sox) are playing in the Texas Baseball League.

Finally, Kevin Duke (Matsu Miners) of the Alaska Baseball League and Joe Dunigan (Dupage Dragons) of the Central Illinois Collegiate Baseball League.

Several former Sooners are also playing in the Major League Baseball League and its minor league affiliates.  Most recently, Brian Shackelford (1995-98) made his MLB debut with the Cincinnati Reds on June 26 against the Cleveland Indians.  To access the players' current stats, click on the individual links below.
