NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's golf team concluded the final round in fifth place at the Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., on Saturday. The Sooners finished out the tournament with a team score of 840 (-24) at the ASU Karsten Golf Course (par-72, 7,037-yards). The tournament winner was Arizona State, the host school, who finished with a tournament-record 824 (-40). Oklahoma's final score of 24 under par was their lowest total of the season. OU has finished in the top 5 in five out of the nine tournaments they have competed in this season.

OU was led by junior Doug Manor (Garland, Texas), who fired a career-low 67 in the opening round and equaled that in the final round. Manor finished in a tie for 11th place, his lowest finish since the Carpet Capital Classic last fall in which he finished tied for 10th.

One shot behind Manor was senior John Kidwell (Dallas, Texas), who finished the tournament with a three-round total of 209 (-7), good for a tie for 17th place. Kidwell's final-round 68 was his lowest score since the second round of the Taylor Made Waikoloa Intercollegiate where he also shot a 68. Freshman Jim Renner (Plainville, Mass.) remained consistent throughout the tournament, carding three rounds of 71 (-1) and finishing tied for 34th.

Rounding out the scoring for the Sooners was juniors Martin Flores (Mansfield, Texas) and Blake Martin (Stigler, Okla.). Flores shot a 70 (-2) in the final round and finished in a tie for 42nd place. Martin shot a three-round total of 217 (+1) and ended the tournament tied for 59th place.

The Sooners return to action April 28-29, when they will compete in the Big 12 Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
