NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma track and field teams return to action this weekend as the teams split for the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz., and the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, Calif. Live coverage for both meets is available at SoonerSports.com.

The 23rd ranked men’s team has 12 athletes competing at the Stanford Invitational Friday and Saturday evening. The men’s distance group begins its season against some of the best in the nation. Patrick Casey makes his Oklahoma debut this weekend after transferring to OU in January. Casey, Eric Harasyn, Frezer Legesse, Riley Masters and Kevin Williams all run the men’s 1,500-meter run Friday evening beginning at 8:30 p.m. CT. Jeremy Sudbury and George Alex run the 5,000-meter race beginning at 9:58 p.m. CT. Bill Kogel, Kevin Schwab, Ryan Poland and Aaron Sherf close out the opening day of competition with the 10,000-meter run beginning at 11:32 p.m. CT.
The final day of action sees Casey, Harasyn, Legesse, Masters and Malcolm Wankel run the men’s 800-meter run at 3:59 p.m. CT.
The rest of the team heads to the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz. The majority of action there is scheduled for Saturday, but three OU athletes start on Friday in the hammer throw as Angel Togafau and Rylee Rackley compete for the seventh-ranked women’s team and Holden Mitchell competes on the men’s side.
The Sooners have a total of 33 athletes scheduled to compete at the event, including Brittany Borman in the javelin throw on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT. Borman is the defending national champion in the event. Borman and Luke Bryant compete in their respective divisions of the discus throw on Saturday as well. The pair swept the women’s and men’s titles at the Texas Relays last weekend.
Of OU’s athletes ranked in the top 10 nationally, three of those are scheduled to compete in Tempe. In addition to Borman and Bryant, Eric Cray runs the men’s 400-meter hurdles Saturday at 6:18 p.m. CT.
Several OU athletes make their outdoor season debuts this weekend with Jacy Bennett (pole vault) and Jessica Engel (1,500-meter run) on the women’s side. Patrick Gomez and Daniel Nicolls also make their outdoor debuts in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase. Taylor Wardall runs the last event for OU at the meet, the men’s 1,500-meter run at 10:21 p.m. CT on Saturday evening.
