NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's basketball team will usher in the 1999-2000 season when it host its annual Baseline Bash tonight at Lloyd Noble Center. Doors to the free event will open at 9 p.m. and festivities will conclude at approximately 12:30 a.m.
The evening will begin with children's carnival games, an ice cream giveaway and an OU Spirit Council contest. At 10 p.m., the 1999-2000 Sooners will sign autographs on the main concourse. Several basketball related warm-up activities will be held on the court until the squad is introduced at midnight, including a student shooting contest with Head Coach Kelvin Sampson and a half-court shooting contest for a new car. Several other prizes will be awarded throughout the evening. The OU pom and cheer squads, as well as the pep band, will also perform. Additionally, the Sooner women's basketball team, which advanced to the second round of the WNIT last season, will be introduced at approximately 11:15 p.m.
The basketball season will officially begin at midnight with the introduction of the OU team. Slated for the practice are several team drills, three-point and slam-dunk contests, and a rendition of "Boomer Sooner" by newcomers Jameel Heywood, Nolan Johnson, Jarrett Hart and Hollis Price. The team's 1999 Sweet 16 banner will also be unveiled.

Sampson's Sooners, who are ranked 12th in the nation this preseason by Basketball News, play their first exhibition game Saturday, Nov. 6. OU faces Montana State in their regular season opener Friday, Nov. 19, at the Top of the World Classic in Fairbanks, Alaska.
