Just like the revamped SoonerSports.com, Inside Glimpse, which chronicles the happenings of the Oklahoma women's gymnastics program through the eyes of assistant coaches Nilson Savage and Jenny Rowland, is back with a new look.  The Inside Glimpse, which has been a regular feature on OU's athletics website for the last year, focuses on news and issues that the sporting public does not usually have access to.

NORMAN, Okla.--
Our program has definitely established its place among the nation's top-15 programs. For the past four years the University of Oklahoma Gymnastics team has gained the respect and the credibility of a well rounded program.  Creating champions and leaders in the community became a norm for this group of student-athletes Besides an enormous achievement in the gym and in the classroom our student athletes still find the time to get involve with great causes around our community. A clear example is what our team, led by Brittany Koncak, has done this year as she explains below.

This year, Oklahoma’s female athletes were the honorary chairs of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. The women’s gymnastics team was very involved with the process leading up to the race. Several of the girls assisted the Susan G. Komen foundation at Penn Square Mall on Saturday, Sept. 25th in getting people to register for the race.

The entire gymnastics team also served as a welcome team and volunteers at the “Swing for the Cure” Golf Tournament on Monday, Sept. 27th. It was a great set of activities that gave our team the chance to see how touching it can be to be involved with a program that has touched so many lives. On Oct. 16th, our team ran in the "Race for the Cure". The team along with other women’s athletic teams from OU started off the race. This was an amazing experience to see over 10,000 people out to support a cause that affects so many of us on so many different levels.

Finally, a few of the girls participated in the   ceremony for the cancer survivors following the race. This was the most inspiring opportunity to have. This really brought home the whole reason why it is important to reach out into the community and be apart of a cause that can save thousands of lives. All of us are very thankful that we were given the opportunity to be involved in the program and hope to be involved again next year.

New Faces Feature No. 2: Caitlin Hinkis
Stepping foot onto the campus of the University of Oklahoma was the equivalent of being reborn.  Fresh faces, amazing athletics, and excellent education led to an intense feeling of anticipation and unbelievable excitement.  I was about to live a dream of competing for the University of Oklahoma gymnastics team!

My name is Caitlin Hinkis, and I am from Simsbury, Connecticut.  I came here to fulfill my goal of competing for the elite in college athletics, while at the same time receiving a high-quality education that would allow me to seek a position in the medical profession.

OU has lived up to all my expectations...and surpassed them.  The OU campus is gorgeous, the classes have so much to offer, and the gymnastics is exactly what I was hoping for.  The coaching staff is among the top-ranked in the nation, and my teammates are the most supportive, inspirational people I have ever known.

The atmosphere I am experiencing is one where I will not only be able to survive the next four years, but I will flourish.  With dedicated coaches and the unity amongst my teammates, a bright destiny lies ahead.  With the work ethic we have established in the gym, and the drive we have clearly elicited, there is no telling how far or where we will go.  With the power of the dream, and the strength to believe, this year will be extraordinary...’05, Bring it on!!!  Boomer Sooner!
