NORMAN, Okla. - The No. 6 seed University of Oklahoma fell to No. 3 seed University of Texas in the quarterfinals, 4-1, at the 2013 Big 12 Championship Friday, April 26, at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

"It was a really good effort. I'm really proud of the way we fought," Oklahoma head coach David Mullins said. "To see the growth since the last time we played them, it's night and day the difference of this team."

Oklahoma (13-9, 5-5 Big 12) lost to Texas, 6-1, March 15, this season.

"We had a shot there to force it into doubles," Mullins added. "I'm disappointed we couldn't start with doubles just because I feel like that was one point we were favored in today."

Due to the chance of inclement weather today, the matches began with singles play.

Emma Devine fell to Lana Groenvynck, 6-1, 6-1, on court six to give Texas the early lead.

Whitney Ritchie faced 33rd-ranked Breaunna Addison at the No. 2 position. After a 6-2 defeat in the first set, Ritchie forced a close second set against Addison but eventually fell, 6-2, 7-5, to give the Longhorns a 2-0 lead.

Abbi Melrose captured the Sooners point in the match at the No. 5 spot with a, 7-5, 6-1, victory over Lina Padegimaite.

After Whitney Wofford fell to Noel Scott on court four, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3), the Longhorns held a 3-1 lead. Hermon Brhane and Mia Lancaster pushed into the third set to give the Sooners a chance to force the match into doubles.

Brhane fought leg cramps throughout the third set but still took a 5-1 lead in the set before Lancaster fell to Elizabeth Begley, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5, to end the match and give Texas a 4-1 victory.

"We didn't quite get there but the improvements we've shown, I'm really happy and really proud." Mullins said. "We've seen what this team is capable of and the growth they've shown these last few months leading into NCAA's and leading into next year, it shows a lot of promise."

The Sooners await their destiny as the NCAA selection show is scheduled for Tuesday, April 30, at 4:30 p.m. CT.
