Three Netters on All-Big 12 Teams
May 01, 2007

NORMAN, Okla.--OU’s freshman standout Vaclav Kucera was named to the All-Big 12 singles team, while the Andrei Daescu and Federico Chavarria landed on the All-Big 12 doubles team, as announced by the the Big 12 Conference on Tuesday afternoon.

Kucera was one of three freshman selected to the team. The Czech Republic native was a valuable asset to the Sooners throughout the 2007 regular season as he went 14-9 in singles play and was ranked as high as No. 58. Kucera was named Big 12 Player of the Week on March 26.

The OU tandem of Chavarria and Daescu teamed-up late in the season. The duo didn't play together until the Sooners' second match of Big 12, which was when OU upset Texas A&M, 6-1. The tandem has won its last four contests, highlighted by upsets of No. 18 Baylor tandem of Matija Zgaga and David Galic and No. 17 Texas duo of Dimitar Kutrovsky and Josh Zvala.

A total of 15 Sooners have earned All-Big 12 singles and doubles honors under OU head coach Paul Lockwood, who is in his 20th season at the helm of the program.

The Sooners will return to action at the Stillwater Regional Saturday, May 12 in Stillwater, Okla. Oklahoma will square off against California at 11 a.m. at the DeBois Tennis Center on the OSU campus. Results will be posted on SoonerSports.com following the conclusion of play.
