OU Gymnasts to Represent USA at Pan American Championships

NORMAN, Okla. - OU head coach Mark Williams and assistant coach Guard Young will represent the University of Oklahoma at the Pan American Gymnastics Championships, Sept. 18-23 in Cancun, Mexico. Young was one of six gymnasts chosen to take part in the competition, and Williams will lead the American squad against all the nations of North and South America.

The event, which is held every four years, will feature an American team consisting of Young, Raj Bhavsar, Todd Thornton, Daniel Diaz-Long and Kris Zimmerman, all of whom are U.S. National Team members.

Young was also recently chosen to the U.S. team which will compete at the prestigious World Championships, which will be held in Ghent, Belgium, in October. Williams will also coach with the American team at that event.

Young is a graduate of Oklahoma City's Putnam City North High School, as well as Brigham Young University. A former junior national champion, he will be entering his second season as an assistant coach for the Sooners squad.
