SAN MARTIN, Calif. – The University of Oklahoma men’s golf squad placed 10th at the Gifford Collegiate Championship at CordeValle in San Martin, Calif., on Wednesday after carding a final-round 365 (+5).
Oklahoma overtook a pair of squads on Wednesday, including fellow Big 12 opponent Colorado, at the 7,169-yard, par-72 layout. OU defeated four squads at the event after first and second rounds of 368 (+8) and 364 (+4), respectively.
The Sooners were led by senior Ben Blundell and freshman Nathan Chambers, who both fired 4-under-par 68s on Wednesday. Blundell ended the 54-hole event in a tie for 15th at -3 (73-72-68), while Chambers was two shots back in a share of 23rd (75-72-68). Blundell carded five birdies and a lone bogey during a nine-hole stretch midway through his round and parred in for the 68. Chambers reached six-under through 14 holes before two late bogeys. Chambers round included five birdies and an eagle at the par-5 third hole.
Tyler Rody (69-73-75) was +1 for the event in 35th, while Ryan Sirman tied for 50th at +6 after rounds of 74, 73 and 75.
Rounding out the OU team scoring were Chris Wilson (77-74-79) and Cole Wiederkehr (78-77-80), who placed 84th and 86th, respectively. Wilson was +14 for the tournament, while Wiederkehr stood +19 during the three-day event.
Stanford posted a 24-under team tally en route to the tournament title, three shots clear of Oklahoma State. OSU’s Peter Uihlein cruised to medalist honors by five shots after rounds of 68, 65 and 69.
The event marked the close to OU’s fall season. The Sooners open their spring slate at the Oak Hills Invitational in San Antonio, Texas, on Feb. 15-16.
