Sooners Lead After 36 at Texas State Intercollegiate

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's golf team fired rounds of 310 and 301 Sunday and stands in first place at the 54-hole Claud Jacobs Intercollegiate at the par-72 Victoria Country Club in Victoria, Texas.

The Sooners, at +35, hold a two-stroke lead over second-place host Texas State (+37) with one round left to play Monday.  Lamar stands in third place (+40), Sam Houston State in fourth (+44) and Akron in fifth (+49).

"We played much better this afternoon," OU head coach Veronique Drouin said of her team's second-round performance.  "It was great to see the girls hang in there toward the end of the day.  We made some nice par saves.  We've been working hard on our short game and it definitely paid off today.  We look forward to playing tomorrow."

Junior Ellen Mueller and senior Andrea Sellmeyer paced the Sooners on Sunday.  Mueller countered her first-round score of 79 (+7) by firing a 71 (-1) during the second round, while Sellmeyer recorded rounds of 74 (+2) and 76 (+4).  The pair shares third place with scores of 150 (+6).

Freshman Aly Seng shot matching 78's for the first and second rounds on Sunday.  The Enid, Okla., native totaled 156 for the day to stand tied for 13th.  Four strokes back from Seng is Chelsey Collins, who is tied for 31st place.  The senior carded an 84 (+12) and a 76 (+4) to total 160 (+16). 

Sophomore Brooke Collins recorded rounds of 79 (+7) and 82 (+10) for a combined 161 (+17) to stand tied for 36th. 

Competing as an individual, Taylor Schmidt carded rounds of 76 (+4) and 80 (+8) during the first 36 for a combined score of 156 (+12).  The freshman shares 13th place with classmate Seng.

The concluding round of the Claud Jacobs Intercollegiate will be played Monday.
