NORMAN, Okla. -- For the second time in three games, the University of Oklahoma soccer team knocked off the first-place team in the Big 12 as it defeated Texas, 2-0, Sunday in front of 238 fans at the OU Soccer Complex. The win was ninth of the season for the Sooners, a school record, and secured the team a spot in the Big 12 Tournament for the first time ever.
Oklahoma improved to 9-7-1 overall, and 4-4-1 in the Big 12 and is guaranteed its first non-losing season in program history. Texas fell to 12-5 overall and 7-2 in the conference.
Freshman forward Logan Womack scored the game's two goals in the final three minutes and sophomore goalkeeper Jana Cunningham posted her fourth conference shutout of the season.
The game was scoreless until the 87:41 mark when Womack notched her sixth goal of the season off a header pass from sophomore forward Krissy Dawson. Then, 64 seconds later, Womack scored again after taking a long pass from sophomore midfielder Jennifer Enos.
Cunningham stopped seven shots as she increased her single-season record of shutouts to 5.5. She improved to 7-6-1 on the year while Longhorns goalkeeper Shay Wilkerson dropped to 12-5.
"We had hoped going into the season that Logan, by the end of the year, would become a huge contributor," said Oklahoma Head Coach Randy Evans. "I think she answered those expectations. This game was also great for the seniors. They have been vital components in the develop of this program."
Texas and Nebraska are a combined 15-3 in the conference play this season. Two of those three losses have come against the Sooners.
Oklahoma finishes its regular season next Saturday at 7 p.m. against Oklahoma State in Stillwater.
