NORMAN, Okla. – The 47th-ranked University of Oklahoma men’s golf squad will travel to San Martin, Calif., this week to participate in the sixth annual Gifford Collegiate Championship at the CordeValle Resort. from Monday through Wednesday (Nov. 8-10).
The 12-team, 54-hole tournament will be played Monday through Wednesday and will feature a best-five-of-six scoring format (best five scorers from each school’s six participants will be counted each round).
“We are excited to go back out to CordeValle this year,” said OU men’s head golf coach Ryan Hybl. “We need to finish up the fall on a good note.”
To do that, the Sooners will have to beat out some tough competition. This year’s Gifford Collegiate Championship features a strong group of participants, including defending NCAA champion Augusta State (ranked No. 5) and defending Gifford Collegiate champion Stanford (ranked No. 16).
OU will compete against other top-ranked opponents as well, including No. 3 UCLA, No. 24 San Diego, No. 25 Washington, No. 26 USC, No. 35 Northwestern and No. 54 Oregon. Also in the field are Arizona, Lamar and Long Beach State.
This week’s Sooner lineup features seniors Ryan Sirman and Liam Logan, sophomore Abraham Ancer, freshman Michael Schoolcraft, sophomore Will Kropp and junior Riley Pumphrey.
Logan will look to ride the momentum of last week’s 1-under-par performance at the rain-shortened two-round Royal Oaks Intercollegiate in Dallas, Texas. Logan finished in 17th place out of 74 competitors.
The Gifford Collegiate Championship is hosted by UCLA, which is coached by former OU golfer Derek Freeman. The tournament will begin Monday at 11:30 a.m. CT. Each day's results will be posted on SoonerSports.com. Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com.
