Conkling, Waytula and Cates Head to KSU Winter Pentathlon

NORMAN, Okla. - Three members of the Sooner track and field team will head to Manhattan, Kan., this weekend for the KSU Winter Pentathlon. Senior Justin Conkling and freshman Mary Waytula will compete as will junior Taylor Cates, Cates will participate as an unattached athlete while Conkling and Waytula will be in Sooner uniforms. The competition will be held at Ahearn Field House.

The Schedule
The men's pentathlon begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday with the 60-meter hurdles and is followed by the long jump, shot put, high jump and 1,000-meter run. The women will begin with the hurdles at 10:30 a.m. and will end with the 800-meter run at 3 p.m.

Last Week
Sooner seniors Staneshia Bell and Bambi Carson posted NCAA provisional qualifying marks to lead Oklahoma in the All Comers meet held at the Mosier Indoor Facility. Bell had a 7.44 in the 60-meter dash and Carson had a 48-10.75 in the shot put to beat the NCAA provisional standard. It marked the season opener for the Sooner track and field team.
LaBoris Bean set a school record in the 60-meter hurdles and several other Sooners registered personal bests in the meet.

Next Up
The Sooners will take a break from competition until mid January. The OU pole vaulters will head to the Reno Summit on Jan. 19-20 while the rest of the Sooner team will host the OU Classic at the Mosier Indoor Facility on Jan. 20. Action at that meet begins at 10:30 a.m. This will be the last break for the Sooners who will compete every weekend beginning Jan. 20 until the Big XII Conference meet on Feb. 23-24.
