NORMAN, Okla.   The No. 43 Oklahoma men’s tennis team claimed its 11th straight victory Sunday defeating Wichita State, 7-0, at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman. The Sooners took the doubles point and claimed all six singles for the victory. The Sooners remain undefeated at 11-0, while the Shockers drop to 5-4.

The Sooners, who haven’t lost a doubles point this season, started well by claiming the hard-earned doubles point. The undefeated duo of junior Tommy Garrison and senior Ondrej Fukala defeated WSU’s Carlo Contente and Moti Eisikovits, 8-1, early on. The pair now own an 8-0 spring record at No. 1 doubles. At the No. 2 spot, Oklahoma’s pair of senior Silviu Tanasoiu and sophomore Marek Velicka lost a hard-fought match to Goran Vujaklija and Boris Gubic, 8-6. To clinch the doubles point, freshman Ryan Thomas and junior teammate Alexei Ivanov won an exhilarating tie-breaker match against Gabriel Loredo and Thiago Santos, 9-7. The pair is now 8-1 at the No. 3 doubles position.

“It’s good to keep winning the doubles point, the number one pair is playing really well right now, but we were lucky to win the No. 3 doubles because we didn’t play very well today. I think our doubles play is definitely crucial to our team” said Thomas.

In singles play, the Sooners posted wins at all six positions. Fukala came out firing at the No. 2 spot, quickly defeating Contente, 6-1, 6-0, giving him a flawless 9-0 singles record. At the No. 5 spot, Garrison dominated Eisikovits, 6-1, 6-3 and Junior Lee Gregg ensured Oklahoma the win by defeating Santos at the No. 6 position, 7-6, 6-1.

The Sooners begin Big 12 action next week with No. 1 Baylor on Friday, March 18, at the Baylor Tennis Center in Waco, Texas at 6 p.m.
