AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Oklahoma soccer team could not catch up to No. 12 Texas on Friday as it fell 4-0 in front of 1,598 fans at Mike A. Myers Stadium, where the Longhorns are undefeated in 24 straight games.
The loss dropped OU to 1-13-1 overall and 0-5-1 in the Big 12, while Texas improved to 10-2-2 and 3-2-1.
The Sooners trailed 3-0 at the half after they surrendered goals in the seventh, 14th and 41st minute.
Texas was limited to one goal in the second half as it scored the fourth and final goal of the game in the 59th minute. Four different Longhorns found the back of the net on the evening.
For the first time this season, OU played both Traci Dickenson and Lisa Jett in goal. Dickenson made her third consecutive start, but allowed two goals early in 17 minutes of action, while Jett gave up the final two scores to go along with five saves in 73 minutes of relief.
“It’s obviously a disappointing loss, but Texas is a very good team,” said OU Head Coach Nicole Nelson. “We have to regroup and shift our focus to Baylor.”
Texas has won the last two meetings in the Red River Rivalry and own a 7-5-1 advantage in the all-time series. The Longhorns’ win also dropped OU’s record to 0-5 against ranked opponents in 2008.
OU will return to action on Sunday in Waco, Texas against the Baylor Bears (5-8-2, 1-4-1), who lost 5-0 at home on Friday to No. 11 Oklahoma State.
The Sooners topped the Bears 3-1 in Norman last season and own a 5-4-2 edge in the all-time series.
Baylor won 2-1 the last time it hosted OU and is 3-1 when the series is contested in Waco.
