NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma men’s tennis team (12-4, 0-2 Big 12)  returns to Norman to host Lamar (1-10) on Friday, and Colorado (5-11, 1-3 Big 12) on Sunday, at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center. Action is set to begin at 2 p.m. on Friday and 12 p.m. on Sunday.  Admission is free.
Series Record/Last Time
Oklahoma edged by Colorado with a 4-3 victory over the Buffaloes in the 2003 season. The Sooners crushed Lamar, 6-0, the last time they played the Cardinals in 2002.
Last Match Recap
OU started off last week by blanking regional opponent Oral Roberts for the second time this season, 7-0, in Norman. The Sooners swept the doubles point and then celebrated five straight-set singles victories.
Oklahoma then faced its first Big 12 opponents last weekend against No. 20 Texas A&M and No. 28 Texas. The Sooners fell to the Aggies and Longhorns, 6-1 and 6-0, respectively.
The doubles competition against Texas was delayed due to the threat of inclement weather. Action will resume on Thurs., April 29, at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, just a day before the Big 12 tournament. A time will be announced at a later date.
Junior Ondrej Fukala (Prerov, Czech Republic) posted the only Big 12 win for the Sooners against Texas A&M’s Brett Joelson at the No. 3 spot. Fukala won the first set, 6-4, only to sacrifice the second, 3-6, and then fought hard to win the tiebreaker match, 10-6.
22-0 vs. Region V
OU has not lost a match to Region V opponents this season. Oklahoma’s individual records are a combined 22-0 when facing regional teams.  In addition, three Sooners are undefeated at singles positions with five or more wins. Leading OU is freshman Marek Velicka (Prerov, Czech Republic) who is 8-0 at the No. 3. position. Sophomore Lee Gregg (Altus, Okla.) and junior Matt Long (Ft. Worth, Texas) are 5-0 at the No. 5 and 6 spots, respectively.
