LAS VEGAS - The 13th-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team closed out opening day action at the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic on Friday with a 3-0 blanking of 21st-ranked Northwestern (2-5). The Sooners (5-1) got a complete game from freshman Keilani Ricketts. It was her second complete game shutout of the season and tied her season high with 12 strikeouts. Junior Chana'e Jones and senior Amber Flores each added solo home runs in the win.
Ricketts once again proved to be the difference for the Sooners. She allowed just four base runners during the game, giving up just two hits and two walks. Northwestern only had two runners reach scoring position.
The Sooners put the first two runs on the board in the third inning. Jones led off with her first home run of the season. Flores then singled and freshman Jessica Shults walked to put two runners aboard with one out for pinch hitter Haley Anderson. Anderson delivered a double down the left field line to score Flores. Flores added her solo home run in the fifth inning.
- Flores hit her third home run of the season, the 44th of her career. She is now four shy of tying Samantha Ricketts atop the school's all-time list.
- Jones hit her first home run of the season, the second of her career.
- Oklahoma is now leads the series with the Wildcats 11-2.
- The Sooners are 153-138 against ranked opponents.
