NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma women's gymnastics team announced the signing of Brittany Koncak and Tiffany Willin to what head coach Steve Nunno believes will be the best recruiting class in the program's history.
"I am very excited about signing these gymnasts to letters of intent," said Nunno. "Along with the 2002 class, they will bring this program to unforeseen heights. I've looked at the recruiting classes for other universities and I feel that we brought in the best group of gymnasts in the country."
Koncak is from McQueeney, Texas and is currently training with the U.S. Elite National Team. Koncak is a favorite to make the USA Olympic squad in 2004. She has competed internationally in recent years and will come to OU as the most highly-decorated gymnast since Kelly Garrison.
"Brittany Koncak has a great background in the sport," said Nunno. "Her international experience will bring so much to this team. She has the grace and beauty of a champion and I know she'll be one at OU."
Willin is from Cape Coral, Fla. and trains at Gymnastics World under coach Sean O'Lore. She is a three time junior national vault champion and a level 10 gymnast. Her father, Gregg Willin, played professional soccer for the Chicago Crunch.
"Tiffany is just an incredible talent," said Nunno. "She is so exciting to watch because of her power and energy. She has strong and explosive legs like her father did when he played soccer. She's another great student as well. She compliments the other two gymnasts and completes an outstanding 2003 class."
Coach Nunno expects to sign one more gymnast in the near future in order to fill the void left by three departing seniors.
